Where to Stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc: Hillside Sky Review

I booked a studio in Sunset Town almost by accident and ended up staying for a month. I paid around $500 for my 2025 stay, worked from an 11th-floor apartment and spent a lot of time at the rooftop infinity pool overlooking the sea, Kiss Bridge and Sunset Town. For me, Hillside Sky was worth it — but the exact apartment matters just as much as the building.

If you are looking for accommodation in Sunset Town, this is a convenient base for southern Phu Quoc: you can walk around in the evenings, visit nearby attractions and come back without a long taxi ride. I would choose it for the views and location, after checking that the specific listing has the facilities you need.

My 11th-floor apartment in The Sky

I stayed in a studio on the 11th floor of The Sky, one of the residential sections within Sun Grand City Hillside Residence. The apartment was compact, fresh and quiet. It had a large bed, TV, workspace, balcony, washing machine with hot water, a small kitchen area, a stove and even an air fryer.

The internet was stable during my stay. I was working as well as exploring Phu Quoc, so a kitchen, washing machine and reliable Wi-Fi mattered more than a long list of hotel-style extras. I could settle into a routine instead of constantly looking for somewhere to eat or work.

Hillside Residence is a residential apartment complex, not one hotel with identical rooms. The Sky, The Sea and The Hill are different sections, and apartments are offered by different hosts or operators. My experience describes one specific studio, not every unit advertised under a Hillside name.

Why I kept going back to the rooftop pool

The rooftop infinity pool was easily my favourite part of staying here. During the day I could cool down and look over the sea; around sunset the whole town looked different. From up there, I could see the pastel buildings, Kiss Bridge and the coastline without leaving the building.

On evenings when fireworks were taking place, I could watch the lights above Sunset Town from the rooftop. That view made the apartment feel like part of the holiday, even on days when I had spent most of my time working.

One detail to check when browsing listings: a photo of the shared rooftop pool does not mean the apartment itself has a sea view, and it does not confirm that every rental includes the same pool access. Check the exact unit photos and ask the host what is included.

How to choose the right Hillside Residence apartment

Start with the view from the actual room. Some units look toward the sea and Kiss Bridge; others face streets, neighbouring buildings or inland scenery. Check the balcony photo rather than relying on a picture taken from the common rooftop.

For a short break, you may only need a comfortable bed and easy access to the pool. For a week or longer, confirm the kitchen equipment, washing machine, desk or table, Wi-Fi arrangement, air-conditioning and cleaning conditions. Read recent reviews for the specific apartment and host, since standards can vary within the same complex.

Before paying, also check the building or section, check-in instructions, pool access and any fees not included in the headline price. A sea-view unit may be worth more if you plan to spend evenings on the balcony; if you will be out all day, another view may be better value.

What my month cost — and what your stay may cost

I paid about $500 for the month in 2025. That is my historical rental cost, not a current offer or a rate to expect from every host. Prices depend on the unit, length of stay, dates and booking conditions.

Cleaning and fresh linen were available through my host for an additional fee. For a longer booking, ask for the total price including electricity, water, cleaning, deposits and any other charges before paying. Check whether a monthly discount only appears when you select a longer stay.

Living in Sunset Town: convenient, with a few trade-offs

The biggest convenience was being able to walk around Sunset Town whenever I felt like it. I visited cafés, explored the decorated streets and went out in the evening without planning a return taxi from another part of the island.

The town is built on a hill. Escalators help with some of the climbs, and I also saw small electric shuttles during my stay. I would check locally for current routes and operating hours, especially if travelling with luggage or mobility needs.

I liked the calm atmosphere, although some streets felt almost like an empty film set at quieter times. This is a landscaped, tourist-oriented neighbourhood, not the lively local street-food environment you find in parts of Duong Dong. Grocery shopping is possible, but the selection is more limited and some prices are higher than in local areas.

What you can do near Hillside Sky

Sunset Town’s main attractions are close enough to make staying here useful even if you do not rent a scooter. Walk across Kiss Bridge, browse Vui Fest Bazaar, or head to the Hon Thom cable car for a day on the neighbouring island. For an evening out, compare Kiss of the Sea and Symphony of the Sea; they are different shows.

Who I would recommend Hillside Sky to

I would stay here again for a week or longer if I wanted a quiet apartment, a swimming pool with an exceptional view and easy evenings in southern Phu Quoc. It makes sense for couples, independent travellers and people who want the freedom of an apartment rather than a conventional resort room.

I would choose another base if most plans were in Duong Dong or northern Phu Quoc, if I wanted a beach directly outside my door, or if busy local streets and a wider choice of everyday shops mattered more than rooftop views. My studio was comfortable and the pool was memorable. I recommend the location, but I would book by the exact apartment — not by the Hillside Sky name alone.
