Where to Stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc: Hillside Sky Review

Hillside Sky made the most sense to me not just as a place to sleep, but as part of the Sunset Town experience. I booked a studio there almost by accident, planning to stay for a short time, and ended up spending a month in this Mediterranean-inspired corner of southern Phu Quoc.

The biggest reason this stay felt memorable was the rooftop infinity pool. From there, I could see the sea, Kiss Bridge, Sunset Town’s pastel buildings, sunsets and evening fireworks. It made the building feel less like a random apartment block and more like another viewpoint inside the area.

For travelers deciding where to stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc, this area works best when you want views, walkability and easy access to the main evening attractions.

If you are wondering where to stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc, Hillside Sky is worth considering if you want sea views, walkable access to the main attractions, and a quieter base close to Kiss Bridge, the Hon Thom cable car and the evening shows.

My stay at Hillside Sky

I stayed in a studio on the 11th floor of the SKY block. The apartment was small, but fresh, quiet and comfortable enough for a month-long stay.

It had the basics I needed: a large bed, TV, workspace, balcony, washing machine with hot water, a small kitchen corner, a stove and even an air fryer. The internet worked steadily, which mattered a lot because I was not just on holiday – I was also working from there.

For a short stay, these details may not matter much. But for a week, two weeks or a month in Sunset Town, they change the whole experience. Having a washing machine, kitchen and stable Wi-Fi made the apartment feel practical, not just pretty.

The building itself sits on the hillside, which is why the views are the main selling point. From the rooftop area, you get a wide view over the sea, Kiss Bridge and the whole designed landscape of Sunset Town.

The rooftop pool is the strongest reason to stay here

The rooftop infinity pool was the highlight of my stay.

In the daytime, it worked as a quiet place to cool down and look over the sea. Around sunset, it became one of the best viewpoints in the area. You can watch the sky change color, see Kiss Bridge below, and look across the rooftops and pastel buildings of Sunset Town.

In the evening, the view becomes even more interesting. The lights switch on, the area starts to feel more alive, and if fireworks are happening that night, you may be able to see them from above.

That was the moment when the price made more sense to me. At first, paying around $500 for a month in Vietnam felt like it might be a lot. But when you are watching sunsets, sea views and fireworks from a rooftop pool, the stay feels like part of the trip itself

Location: what is nearby

Hillside Sky works well if your plan is focused on southern Phu Quoc.

From Sunset Town, you can easily spend time around:

The biggest advantage is that you do not have to think too much about getting back at night. If you want to walk around Sunset Town, stay for the evening atmosphere, watch a show, visit Vui Fest or take photos around Kiss Bridge, staying nearby makes the plan much easier.

This is especially useful if you are traveling without a bike. Sunset Town is walkable, and many of the main things to do are close enough to combine in one evening.

Daily life in Sunset Town

Sunset Town feels different from many other parts of Phu Quoc. It is clean, polished, quiet and very designed. The architecture is Mediterranean-inspired, with stone streets, arches, fountains, mosaics, sculptures and hillside buildings.

At first, it can feel almost too perfect, like a movie set or a resort town that is still waiting for more people. But after a few days, I started to enjoy the calm. It felt safe, easy to walk around, and visually beautiful from many angles.

Because the area is built on a hill, you should know about the escalators. There are working escalators that help you move uphill, which makes walking much easier. The main long escalator from the fountain area usually works until midnight, but it is always better to check locally because schedules can change.

There are also small local electric shuttles around the area. When I was there, they could take you around Sunset Town for a small fee, which was useful if you did not want to walk uphill.

For groceries, Sunset Town is more limited than central Phu Quoc. There is a supermarket around Vui Fest Bazaar, but you should not expect the same choice as in Duong Dong. Local shops exist, but prices can be higher than in more local parts of the island.

Who Hillside Sky is good for

Hillside Sky is a good option if you want to experience Sunset Town properly, not just stop there for one photo.

It can work well for:

  • travelers who want sea views
  • couples
  • people visiting Sunset Town for the first time
  • travelers without a bike
  • digital nomads staying for a short period
  • people who want to be close to Kiss Bridge and the cable car
  • travelers planning to combine Sunset Town with Khem Beach
  • anyone who enjoys quiet, clean and walkable areas

I would especially consider it if your trip is focused on the south of Phu Quoc. If you want to visit Hon Thom, see Kiss Bridge, spend time in Sunset Town, go to Khem Beach and stay for the evening shows, this location is very convenient.

It is also a good base if you like slow evenings. You can walk to a cafe, watch the lights come on, go to Vui Fest Bazaar, see the fireworks or return to the rooftop pool without needing a long taxi ride.

What to keep in mind before booking

Hillside Sky and Sunset Town are not for everyone.

If your main question is where to stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc, I would choose Hillside Sky only if you plan to spend real time around Kiss Bridge, Vui Fest, the cable car and the evening shows.

If you want a very local, chaotic, street-food-heavy Asian atmosphere right outside your door, Sunset Town may feel too polished. It is beautiful, but it is also designed. Some streets can feel quiet, especially outside peak hours or low season.

You should also check the details of your apartment before booking. In this area, the experience can depend a lot on the exact room, view and host.

Before booking, I would check:

  • whether the room has a sea view
  • whether utilities are included
  • whether cleaning is included or paid separately
  • whether the apartment has a washing machine
  • whether Wi-Fi is stable
  • whether the building has rooftop pool access
  • how recent the reviews are
  • whether the host has good ratings

If you book through Airbnb, try setting the stay for 28 days or more if you are considering a monthly rental. Some apartments only show better monthly prices when you choose a longer stay.

In my case, cleaning and linen change were available through the host for an extra fee. That was convenient, but it is exactly the kind of detail I would ask about before confirming a longer stay.

How to use this stay in a Sunset Town plan

I would not treat Hillside Sky as just a place to sleep. The location works best when you build your day around the area.

A simple plan could look like this:

Start the day slowly with coffee in Sunset Town. Walk around the streets, take photos of the architecture, visit the central fountain area or Sun Signature Gallery, then head to the Hon Thom cable car if you are planning a day trip.

Another good option is to combine the area with Khem Beach. Spend the first part of the day at the beach, then return to Sunset Town before sunset for a walk, dinner, Vui Fest Bazaar or one of the evening shows.

In the evening, go back to the rooftop pool or your balcony if you have a good view. That is when this stay feels most special: the lights, the sea, Kiss Bridge and the whole area below make it feel like you are still inside the travel experience, even after coming back to the apartment.

Is Hillside Sky worth staying at?

For me, yes – but mainly because I used the location fully.

I stayed for a month, walked around Sunset Town often, used the rooftop pool, watched sunsets, worked from the apartment, went to cafes, explored Vui Fest and used the area as a base for southern Phu Quoc.

If you only plan to visit Kiss Bridge quickly and spend most of your time in other parts of the island, you may not need to stay here. A quick visit to Sunset Town might be enough.

But if you want a calm, scenic and easy base in southern Phu Quoc, Hillside Sky makes sense. The rooftop pool, sea views and walkable location turn the stay into part of the experience, not just accommodation.

So, where to stay in Sunset Town Phu Quoc depends on your trip style: Hillside Sky works best if you want views, walkability and easy access to the main southern Phu Quoc attractions.
