Phuket Airport Transfers: How to Get to Your Hotel

I usually book my Phuket airport transfers in advance. After a long flight with bags, I like being able to walk out, find the sign with my name and wait ten minutes for the driver to bring the car. The extra cost over other car options has often been small enough for me, and choosing the vehicle class means fewer surprises.

For a lower budget, the Smart Bus serves the west-coast beaches for 100 baht, while a separate orange bus goes to Phuket Town. The decision comes down to your hotel address, the number of people sharing the fare and how much walking or waiting you are prepared to do.

Prices for Phuket airport transfers were checked in October 2026. App quotes, private transfers and car hire depend on the vehicle, dates and exact destination.

HKT has two main passenger terminals, international and domestic. Have your terminal, flight number and hotel’s exact map pin ready when arranging a ride. “Patong” alone is not a hotel address, and a bus stop serving the area may still leave you some distance from reception.

Phuket airport transfers: three ways to book a car

Arrange the car before you fly

Advance booking removes the search for a ride from your arrival. Read the meeting instructions: some services arrange a name-board welcome, while others use a fixed pickup point. There may still be a short wait for the car to come around.

Check passenger and suitcase capacity separately, and add a child seat during booking if needed. Four seats do not automatically mean room for four large suitcases. The waiting allowance, cancellation deadline and any extras should be clear before payment.

Trip.com lists Phuket airport transfers, priced per vehicle. Enter HKT, the hotel address, your date and flight details to see the offers for that journey.

This article contains affiliate links and widgets. If you book through them, I may earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

KiwiTaxi also covers HKT routes, including Patong. Enter the same route and luggage requirements when comparing a second quote.

Order through Grab, Bolt or inDrive

Grab has designated airport pickup arrangements and directions in the app. Its upfront fixed-fare promise excludes GrabTaxi, so read the pricing method for the category you select.

Bolt also advertises rides to and from HKT. Its pickup location can change; follow the app and confirm the meeting point with the driver. Do not assume it uses the same area as Grab.

inDrive operates in Phuket too. In 2024, I used it for a ride to the airport, but the driver declined to enter and dropped me at the entrance. For an airport drop-off, I would agree delivery to the correct terminal before setting off.

When comparing apps, look at the meeting point as well as the price. Match the number plate and driver details before getting in.

Use an airport taxi counter

Ask whether the service is metered or fixed-price and what the total includes. One limousine operator listed by the airport posts 800 baht to Patong, 1,000 to Kata, 900 to Rawai and 650 to Phuket Town. These are that operator’s advertised prices, not a universal taxi tariff.

A counter lets you arrange the journey after landing without using an app. Keep the booking receipt and the agreed destination.

Buses and shared minivans

Smart Bus to the west-coast beaches

The Smart Bus route runs south from the airport through destinations including Surin, Kamala, Patong, Karon and Kata to Rawai. It is the beach service, not the route through Phuket Town.

Board outside the Domestic Terminal at Exit 3. After an international arrival, head towards the domestic terminal and follow the public-transport signs to the Smart Bus stop.

The operator advertises airport departures between 08:15 and 23:30. Use the current timetable and live bus tracker for your journey. For the return, select the airport-bound timetable for your stop.

Payment is available by cash, supported contactless Visa, Mastercard or JCB, or Thai PromptPay. Small cash is a useful backup.

For four fare-paying passengers, the bus costs 400 baht before onward transport. That is the point to compare quotes for Phuket airport transfers by car: the saving may be less compelling when several people are sharing the car and carrying bags.

Orange Airport Bus to Phuket Town

The orange Airport Bus 8411 goes to Phuket Bus Terminal 1, with stops along a route that includes Central Phuket and HomePro Thalang. Allow around 90 minutes for the full journey, plus the distance from your stop to the hotel.

Follow the signs from Exit 3 towards the public-transport parking area and confirm the orange town-bound service before boarding. Tickets can be bought on the bus, using cash or a supported QR payment.

Shared minivans

Ask the counter: when does it leave, and does it deliver to this exact hotel? Confirm the per-person fare and luggage allowance.

Sharing can reduce the cost for a solo passenger, but the vehicle may involve waiting and other hotel drop-offs. A cheaper ticket is less attractive when you are tired and your hotel is the final stop.

Collecting a rental car at Phuket Airport

Renting at HKT makes more sense when you plan to drive during the holiday, rather than use the car solely to reach the hotel. Include fuel, parking and any delivery charge in the comparison.

Localrent offers airport collection. For your dates, check the chosen car’s deposit, insurance, excess, mileage and driver requirements. Airport delivery and collection outside working hours may cost extra.

Use the rental company’s contact details in the voucher to agree the handover point and required documents. Record the car’s condition and fuel level before accepting it, and arrange the return.

In the search below, select Phuket Airport as the collection point and compare the full rental for your stay.

Phuket airport transfers for late arrivals and early flights

A landing time before the last bus does not mean you will catch it. Allow for immigration, baggage collection and reaching the stop. When a car is the only workable option for your arrival time, arrange the meeting and waiting conditions before the flight.

For Phuket airport transfers back to HKT, work backwards from your airline’s recommended airport arrival time. Roughly an hour of driving is a starting point for Patong in ordinary traffic, not a buffer for your flight. Add time for traffic and, where relevant, handing back a rental car. A bus journey also needs the walk to the stop and a wait for departure.

Would an airport hotel help?

For a very early flight, compare a night closer to HKT with leaving a southern beach hotel before dawn. The accommodation map below lets you compare locations and prices for your dates. Check any hotel’s airport shuttle arrangements separately.

Before you arrive: booking details and mobile data

For Phuket airport transfers booked in advance, save your hotel address, voucher and supplier’s contact details somewhere accessible offline. Set up your chosen ride app before travelling.

An eSIM can provide data for messaging the driver and checking the map. Check your phone’s compatibility, the package’s activation instructions, validity and whether it includes calls or only data.

For travel insurance through Trip.com, check the plan’s eligibility for your country of residence and its coverage before paying.

A couple of notes for departure day

I have seen a 7-Eleven one level above the international terminal’s check-in area, as well as another outside. There is also a view I enjoy from the waiting area: the runway in front of you, with the Andaman Sea beyond it. Once the transfer and check-in are behind you, it is a lovely last glimpse of Phuket.
