You do not need to spend equal time inside every church. Pick a few that interest you and slow down there.

Tokalı Kilise — Buckle Church
Do not overlook Tokalı Church simply because it sits outside the main enclosed circuit, across the approach road.
Its extensive painted interior feels different from the smaller churches inside the main complex, particularly because of the scale of the narrative scenes and the striking use of blue.

As checked in September 2026, the main ticket for foreign visitors was €20. Dark Church required an additional €6 ticket.
The museum operates daily, but opening hours, last admission and access to individual churches can change seasonally.
For a normal daytime visit, aim to arrive before 16:00 and check the current official museum page shortly before you go. This gives you enough time even when seasonal closing hours are shorter.

Göreme is compact, but it is not completely flat or step-free.
