Göreme to Avanos: Stress-Free Dolmuş Guide
The easiest way to travel from Göreme to Avanos without a car is the direct local dolmuş. The route runs through Çavuşin, and Avanos is only about 9 km from Göreme by road.
For a daytime visit to the river, pottery shops and Old Town, take the dolmuş and explore Avanos on foot. A taxi mainly helps with luggage or a departure that cannot wait for the next minibus.

Göreme to Avanos dolmuş timetable and fare
The board I photographed in Göreme at the end of June 2026 showed the following outward service.
| Göreme → Avanos | Posted in June 2026 |
|---|---|
| One-way fare | 90 TRY per person |
| Departure frequency | Hourly, at :15 |
| First and last listed departures | 08:15 and 20:15 |
| Route | Göreme → Çavuşin → Avanos |
These fares and departures are from June 2026. Check the current timetable for your travel day, including weekends; the return trip needs its own check.
The timetable is simple, but the service is only hourly. Missing a departure by two or three minutes can therefore mean almost an hour of waiting, so arrive at the stop a little early.

Where to catch the Avanos dolmuş in Göreme
Start in Göreme’s central bus-terminal area and look for the departure board marked AVANOS / ÇAVUŞİN, shown in my photo below. Confirm the current boarding point locally before waiting.
This is a local minibus, so there is normally no advance reservation. Board the service marked AVANOS and bring Turkish lira in cash; confirm the fare and payment with the driver.

The route from Göreme to Avanos goes through Çavuşin
Combining the towns in the order Göreme → Çavuşin → Avanos avoids travelling back through Göreme between stops. Check the next departure before spending longer in Çavuşin.
I travelled the Çavuşin → Avanos section myself. The fare was 75 TRY, and the ride took roughly eight minutes.
Arriving in Avanos
If necessary, tell the driver you want Avanos merkez — central Avanos.
The riverfront, bridges and central pottery shops are walkable. Old Town adds uphill lanes and steps, so allow for the climb when planning the afternoon.

Staying overnight in Avanos?
For a quieter evening and an overnight stay, compare central Avanos hotels with the historic stone houses uphill in Old Town. Check the walk from your stop with luggage before choosing a room.

Göreme to Avanos by taxi or Uber
A taxi is the straightforward alternative if you have luggage, need to leave immediately or miss the dolmuş.
Check the current availability and estimated fare in Uber from your Göreme pickup point, or ask your hotel or a local taxi stand to arrange a licensed taxi. An app estimate does not guarantee that a driver is immediately available.
Compare the taxi total for your group with the minibus fare for each person. Agree the destination and check the return arrangement when your plans depend on a particular departure time.
Do you need a car for Göreme to Avanos?
For Göreme to central Avanos alone, a rental car adds little: the dolmuş covers the journey and you can walk around town.
A car becomes more useful for an independent day covering several valleys, viewpoints or underground cities. Compare the full rental price, fuel and parking with the taxi or tour total for your group.
