Choose the area before the villa
Laguna concentrates resort hotels, lagoons, golf and internal transport. A Laguna address alone does not mean a villa sits on the shore or includes hotel shuttle access. Dusit is on Bang Tao Beach; Banyan Tree is set back around the lagoon.
Bang Tao and Cherng Talay put more shops, supermarkets and independent restaurants within reach. The Residence Resort, Oxygen Style and Villoft offer a more self-directed stay, though their exact walking distances to the beach differ.
Layan includes beachfront resorts and hillside properties. Anantara Layan’s Beachfront Pool Villa has a route to the sand; The Pavilions and Layan Residences sit uphill. The view can be expansive, but daily beach visits need the hotel shuttle, taxi or car.
For the wider area, including Laguna, Boat Avenue, restaurants and local services, see the Bang Tao Beach Phuket guide.
Resort pool villas
1. Banyan Tree Phuket: a 32 m² pool and resort service
Location: Laguna Phuket, inland from Bang Tao Beach. Category: Signature Pool Villa, one bedroom, 270 m². Pool: 32 m², private to the villa.
This is the Banyan Tree category to compare if pool size matters. Its pool is substantially larger than the 17 m² jet pool in the 140 m² Serenity Pool Villa. For families, the resort also lists two-bedroom pool villas. The resort’s villa setup suits couples who want a separate outdoor area plus access to dining, spa and golf services.
The beach is reached by resort transport or a separate ride, and the property is spread across the lagoon. Dining and spa treatments cost extra. Banyan Tree uses several pool-villa labels for different layouts, so use the full category name when comparing rates.
2. Dusit Thani Laguna Phuket: two bedrooms over three floors
Location: directly on Bang Tao Beach within Laguna Phuket. Category: Two-Bedroom Pool Villa, 252 m². Pool: 18 m² rooftop pool.
The layout places two bedrooms and a garden on the ground floor, living and dining space with a kitchen above, and the pool on the roof. Published villa privileges include breakfast for four and a Villa Host; inclusions vary by rate. This category suits a family that wants a proper beach-resort setting and a kitchen for simple meals.
The vertical layout is the main drawback. Bedrooms, living area and pool occupy separate floors, so the stairs can be awkward for toddlers or anyone with limited mobility. The rooftop pool is private, though modest beside a full-length lap pool. Villa placement varies between lake and beach sides; the booking offer should name the location.
3. Anantara Layan Phuket Resort: pool villa with beach access
Location: Layan Beach. Category: Beachfront Layan Pool Villa, one bedroom, 280 m². Pool: private pool inside an enclosed beachfront garden; dimensions are not published on the room page.
Anantara sells two separate beachfront pool-villa categories. The 180 m² Beach Access Pool Villa has an enclosed garden, private pool and direct beach access for up to two adults. The 280 m² Beachfront Layan Pool Villa adds a separate living sala, allows up to three adults and places its enclosed pool garden at the shoreline. This review covers the larger category, for couples who value the extra living space and resort services beside the beach.
Anantara Layan is quieter and more removed from the restaurant and shopping cluster around central Bang Tao. The resort grounds are spread out, and buggies may be useful. Monsoon surf and tides still affect sea swimming; a beachfront position does not guarantee calm water.
4. The Pavilions Phuket: a 12-metre infinity pool above Layan
Location: Layan hillside. Category: Ocean View Pool Villa, one bedroom, 310 m². Pool: private 12 × 4 m infinity pool.
This villa gives a couple more outdoor space than a typical resort room: a large pool, sun deck and sala, with views over Layan and the Andaman. Breakfast is listed among the villa amenities. The resort also runs a scheduled complimentary shuttle to the beach and shopping area, which is useful for planned trips.
The hillside position is the compromise. Spontaneous beach visits and dinners away from the property depend on the shuttle timetable or paid transport. The elevation can also mean slopes around the resort. Read the shuttle schedule and cancellation terms before choosing a non-refundable rate.
5. Layan Residences by Anantara: a 1,400 m² two-bedroom residence
Location: hillside above Layan. Category: Two Bedroom Sea View Residence, 1,400 m², maximum six adults. Pool: private infinity pool; dimensions are not listed for this category.
This is a hillside residence with two storeys, two master bedrooms, living and dining rooms, an outdoor dining sala and a roof deck. The category page lists butler service; staffing and dining inclusions depend on the specific offer. Published starting rates are far above the resort-villa categories and vary by date.
The hillside setting delivers sea views, but the residence is not on the beach. Transport is needed to reach the sand and restaurants. At this scale and price, it suits a group that will use the residence’s living areas and services, not guests who only need a place to sleep.
Independent villas and managed complexes
6. The Residence Resort: kitchen-led family accommodation
Location: Cherng Talay, inland from the beach. Category: two-bedroom private-pool villa; the resort also lists one- and three-bedroom layouts. Pool: private outdoor pool; dimensions are not published.
A kitchen and living area suit families planning to eat some meals at home. The operator advertises local tuk-tuk service and dining arrangements. Its website describes the beach as a ten-minute walk, while booking information calls it a short drive; the route varies with the assigned villa.
The official property page currently lists the spa and gym as temporarily closed. This stay is more independent than the beachfront resorts, and those facilities may still be unavailable during your dates.
7. Two Villas Holiday – Oxygen Style: a walled pool and kitchen
Location: Cherng Talay, inland from Bang Tao Beach. Category: two-bedroom villa within a one- to four-bedroom collection. Pool: private pool inside a walled garden; dimensions vary by unit and are not confirmed in the listing.
The enclosed garden gives a family a defined outdoor area, while the kitchen and living room make the villa useful for longer stays. The duplex-style layout adds separation between sleeping and living areas. It suits guests who prefer their own routine over hotel dining and shared resort facilities.
Despite the name, this villa is inland. Budget for rides to the beach and evenings around Boat Avenue. The listing’s unit photos and room description should show the two-bedroom layout and walled pool garden.
8. Villoft Zen Living: two bedrooms and a private deck
Location: Layan/Cherng Talay, away from the beachfront. Category: Zen Villa Superior 2B, 137 m², two bedrooms. Pool: private pool with deck and garden setting; no pool measurements published.
This compact two-bedroom layout suits two couples or a family of four who want a kitchen and their own pool. It takes less space to manage than a private estate, while keeping a separate living area for time together. The key is choosing the exact 2B villa: the wider property also advertises studios and lofts with different facilities.
The villa is inland, so transport and current on-site services affect the stay. Published starting rates apply to specific offers and dates; they do not guarantee a price for the 2B unit.
Private estates for larger groups
9. Villa Samakee: a five-bedroom estate with a 20-metre pool
Location: Layan Estate, a gated residential enclave. Category: five-bedroom private villa. Pool: 20 × 5 m, with a shaded shallow area for children.
The villa’s scale makes it a candidate for extended families or a group that wants to gather around one table. Published facilities include daily housekeeping and chef service; the operator’s terms say groceries are charged separately and list a security deposit. Transport is needed for beach and restaurant trips. Booking pages place Bang Tao Beach a short drive away.
The public rate page contains seasonal rates and past-period date ranges, so request a current full quote. Ask for the deposit amount, minimum stay, grocery process and what chef hours cover before paying.
10. The Himmaphan: eight suites and a 60 m² pool
Location: Bang Tao Beach area, listed around 200 m from the beach and a five-minute walk by an OTA listing. Category: eight-bedroom private villa, up to 22 guests per the operator. Pool: 60 m².
The Himmaphan is designed for a large reunion or a multi-family trip. Its 1,600 m² estate has eight king suites, a full-time villa team and a 60 m² pool. The operator lists a maximum of 22 guests; Expedia shows 26, so get the permitted occupancy in writing. The operator’s rate sheet says breakfast cooking is included, with groceries charged separately, while Expedia lists cooked breakfast as a paid extra. Ask which meal terms apply to the selected rate; private-chef service may also incur a charge.
This is excessive space and staffing for a small party. The operator requires a minimum stay and charges for extra beds; obtain written terms for capacity, meals, access and cancellation before paying.
Rates and expenses to compare
On 27 October 2026, property pages displayed starting rates of THB 16,471 for The Pavilions Ocean View Pool Villa, THB 29,300 for Anantara Layan’s 180 m² Beach Access Pool Villa, THB 40,800 for its 280 m² Beachfront Layan Pool Villa, and THB 145,800 for Layan Residences’ two-bedroom sea-view residence. The first two Anantara villa prices refer to distinct room categories: the Beachfront category is 100 m² larger, includes a separate living sala and allows one additional adult. Layan Residences starts at a much higher level because it is a 1,400 m² two-bedroom hillside property for up to six adults. These are dynamic “from” rates without selected dates, not quotes for a particular stay.
For a private estate, compare the whole-stay amount and ask about refundable deposits, groceries, chef service, extra beds, minimum stay and airport or daily transport. For resort villas, compare taxes, breakfast, cancellation terms and any paid dining or spa services. A nightly rate alone does not show the cost of a group stay.
Booking details that can change the stay
For a private rental, get the pool privacy and maintenance schedule in writing before paying a deposit. Ask whether staff or gardeners enter the garden during the stay, how keys are handed over, what the deposit covers and when it is returned. For children, ask about pool barriers and bedroom access rather than relying on a general “family-friendly” label.
For a group arriving with luggage, compare a pre-booked transfer against separate rides. The Phuket airport transfer guide compares options; enter the villa’s exact address when requesting a quote.
